MySQL Connect Error!!!와 Too many connections 에러?

그동안은 MySQL Connect Error!!!에러만 봐왔는데요.
갑자기 Too many connections 에러가 떠서 검색해서
max_connections 이 100 이였나 이거를 max_connections 1024로 변경해 줬는데요.
Connect와 connections이 서로 같은건가요?

max_connections 연결된 개수 초과
MySQL Connect Error! 아예 연결 안됨
pgrep -x httpd | wc -l 로 실행중인 프로세스를 확인하다보면 사용중인 프로세스가 많을경우에도 MySQL Connect Error 가 뜨는거 같던데 max_connect와 무관한가요?
